LG TV No Sound (Here’s How To Fix It FAST!)

Most LG TVs eventually encounter the same problem: the sound doesn’t work.

There are countless cases of LG Smart TV owners claiming to have experienced this issue, with some claiming it’s been a problem for years!

Fortunately, we found a quick fix that should fix about 90% of LG TVs with no sound.

How To Fix An LG TV With No Sound

If your LG TV doesn’t have sound, you must reset it. Disconnect your TV from the wall and wait one minute. While the device is unplugged, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then, wait a minute and reconnect your TV’s power cable.  The TV will softly reboot, and the sound should work again!

Unplug your TV from the Wall

One of the most common methods for fixing no sound on your LG TV is to unplug it from the wall outlet, although it may seem obvious.

Be patient and make sure you wait the full minute before plugging it back in.

While the TV is unplugged, find and hold the power button on your TV for 30 seconds, which is usually located on the bottom or back of the TV.

NOTE: You must hold the power button on your TV, and not the remote control for this to work properly.

This will cause your TV to perform a soft reset and use up any remaining battery life, which is more effective than simply turning your TV off and on.

After 60 seconds, reconnect the TV’s power cord, and the sound should work without any issues.

This solution should help most of you, but we have a few other fixes worth trying if it hasn’t.

Make sure your TV isn’t muted

This should be an obvious fix, but you never know.

Maybe your kid or pet hit the mute button by mistake…

Maybe your remote control isn’t working correctly…

Regardless, turn the volume up on your TV and ensure it’s unmuted.

It’ll save you a lot of time and effort if this fixes it!

Update your LG TVs software

If you haven’t updated the software on your LG Smart TV, the sound issue may be caused due to this.

That’s one of the many reasons to make sure you’re using the latest software update.

Checking for software updates on an LG TV.

When your LG TV is connected to the internet, it should automatically scan and install software updates when they release.

But if that isn’t the case, you’ll want to update your TVs software manually:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote control.
  2. Click the Settings icon.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Choose General from the menu.
  5. Find and select About This TV.
  6. Make sure Automatic Updates is enabled.

NOTE: While you’re in this menu, you can check for updates manually.

Use a different HDMI port

Another simple fix worth trying is to switch the HDMI port you’re using on your LG TV.

There are usually multiple HDMI ports on the TV so if one isn’t producing any sound, one of the other ports might.

Also, be sure the HDMI cable is all the way in the port.

Try a different HDMI cable

If switching the HDMI port didn’t work, you should try using a different HDMI cable.

This is a common fix if your television has no signal, but it works just as well for sound issues.

This solution fixed my most sound issue, so it’s certainly worth a try!

NOTE: If you don’t have a spare HDMI cable laying around, you can come back to this step later. There’s no sense in spending a few bucks on a new cord if you don’t have to!

Factory reset your LG TV

Factory resetting your TV will restore it to the settings it had when you first purchased it. While your account settings and apps will be deleted, it should help fix your sound issue.

With a remote

  1. Turn the TV on.
  2. Press the Settings icon on your remote.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Choose General from the menu.
  5. Click Reset to Initial Settings.

Your TV will automatically restart and display the setup screen as if you just bought the TV.

Without a remote

  1. Find the power button (located on the back or bottom of the TV).
  2. Turn the TV on.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.

If this doesn’t work, you’ll have to find the menu option using the control panel buttons.

  1. Open the Settings/Menu.
  2. Select All Settings.
  3. Choose General from the menu.
  4. Click Reset to Initial Settings.

NOTE: You can also use a USB keyboard, the LG ThinQ app on your phone, or a universal remote to navigate the menu easier.

Change the sound settings on your LG TV

Another way you can fix your LG TVs sound issue is by adjusting the sound settings in the menu.

For starters, you want to do is turn off Smart Sound Mode.

  1. Press the Home button on your remote control.
  2. Click the Settings icon.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Choose Sound from the menu.
  5. If Smart Sound Mode is on, you should turn it off.

Next, you’ll want to change the Sound Out settings. Since this is used to manage Bluetooth devices, you need to adjust the settings accordingly.

Give each setting a try in the following order, and see if the sound comes back.

  • Audio Out (Optical/HDMI Arc)
  • LG Sound Sync (Optical)
  • Internal TV Speaker + Audio Out (Optical)

NOTE: You may have different options listed based on model and other devices you use. Give every single outpout a try before moving on!
