In this post, I’ll teach you how to download and install apps on your LG Smart TV in 5 minutes or less.
Once you’re finished, you’ll be able to stream your favorite TV shows or movies no matter which streaming platform they’re on.
How To Download Apps On An LG Smart TV
To download applications onto your LG Smart TV, you first want to visit the LG content store, search for the app you’re looking to download and click install. For third-party applications, you’ll need to use one of the alternative solutions we’ll be covering soon!
Using the LG Content Store
LG TVs come with a free store that allows them to download various applications.
With that said, you’re only allowed to download the applications that LG has pre-approved using this method!
Here’s how to install applications using the LG Smart TV Content Store:
- Turn the television on and press the Home button.
- Select More Apps to visit the LG content store.
- Search around the content store for your preferred applications.
- Once you find an application, press the Install button.
If you’re looking to install third-party applications that you can’t find on the content store, the next solution should help you out!
Using a USB Drive
To download third-party applications onto your LG Smart TV, you may need to use a USB drive.
Here’s how to download third-party applications using a USB drive:
- Download the APK file that you’re looking to install onto your USB drive.
- Plug the USB drive into the back of your LG TV.
- Find the file manager and select the file once you find it.
- You’ll see a warning pop up — if you trust the source/file, click yes to grant it permission.
- Wait for application to finish installing.
You should see the application on the LG TVs home page if installed correctly.
Using a Third-Party Device
One of the best ways to download applications onto your LG TV is to use a third-party device, such as a streaming device or gaming console.
Here are a few examples of third-party devices you can use:
- Amazon Fire TV Stick
- Apple TV
- Roku Streaming Stick
- Chromecast with Google TV
- PS4
- PS5
- Xbox Series S/X
- Xbox One
- Many more…
Once you have a streaming device, you’ll want to plug it into your LG TV (and wall, if needed) and connect to WiFi.
Then, search the device’s store for the application you’re looking to use, click Install, and wait for the installation process to complete.
This will vary slightly depending on your device, but the core process remains the same!

Using LG SmartShare
Another way to get your favorite streaming services on your LG TV is to use their SmartShare feature.
Essentially, LG SmartShare allows you to screen mirror any applications from your Android phone to the television.
Most LG Smart TVs have the SmartShare application preinstalled, so you’ll just have to download and install the application onto your Android device.
Using Apple AirPlay
Like the LG SmartShare method we just covered, Apple AirPlay offers the same functionality for iPhone users.
The main difference between the two is Apple AirPlay comes pre-installed on both your LG TV and iPhone, so you’ll just need to check the control centers on each device to active it!
How To Uninstall Apps On An LG Smart TV
Uninstalling applications on your LG Smart TV is a relatively simple process.
Here’s how you can do it.
- Turn the television on and press the Home button.
- Choose the Pencil icon near the right side of the screen.
- Using your remote control, navigate to the application you’re looking to uninstall and click the X icon on it.
Now, the application should be fully uninstalled from your LG TV.
