Most Vizio TVs eventually have the same problem: they blink on and off.
There are countless cases of Vizio TV owners stating they’ve had this issue, with some claiming it’s been a problem for years!
Fortunately, there is a quick fix that should fix about 80% of Vizio TVs that won’t turn on.
How To Fix A Vizio TV Blinking On and Off
If your Vizio Smart TV isn’t turning on, you need to reset it. Disconnect your TV from the wall and wait 60 seconds. After a minute, plug your TV back into the outlet. This will give your Vizio TV a soft reset, and it should turn back on fine in most cases.
If this doesn’t work for you, try the other solutions below.
Unplug your Vizio TV from the wall
Although it might seem obvious, the most common way to get your Vizio TV to stop blinking on and off is to unplug it from the wall socket.
The most important thing is to wait the entire minute. Before plugging it back in, be patient and wait until it has been at least 60 seconds.
Locate and hold the power button on your Vizio TV for 30 seconds while it’s unplugged. Make sure that you’re pressing your TV’s power button and not the power button on your remote control.
The power button should be located on the back right side of the TV.
Your TV will soft reset itself and help drain any remaining power in the device.
NOTE: This works better than just turning the TV on and off.
After 60 seconds, plug the TV back in and it should power back on without any problems.
While this solution should work in most situations, the others can be more challenging.
But don’t worry, we’ll be sure to help you every step of the way!
Make sure the outlet works
Another simple check you can perform to spare yourself a ton of hassle is this one, particularly if you’re connecting a TV to an outlet you’ve never tried before.
Take any household gadget you are confident will function in the outlet, such as a phone charger, and plug it in to test the outlet.
You’ll know the outlet is the problem if you plug the charger’s other end into your phone or tablet and it doesn’t charge.
Additionally, you may have blown a circuit if other devices or your lights are off. If that happens, check your circuit breaker to see if a fuse is blown.
Remove the batteries from your Vizio remote
If unplugging and re-plugging the television didn’t fix the flickering issue, remove the batteries from the remote.
Ensure that both batteries are entirely removed from the remote.
With the batteries out, press and hold the remote’s power button for 15 seconds.
After 15 seconds, replace the batteries in the remote and attempt to switch on the television. It should reactivate.
Suppose either of the two techniques above resolves your Vizio TV’s power issue, but the problem persists a few days or weeks later. In that case, you should reset your TV to factory settings for a more permanent solution.
Factory reset your Vizio TV
If you could get your TV on by unplugging and replugging it into the wall, you should factory reset the TV to avoid any future problems.
With a remote
- Open the Menu by clicking the “Menu” button.
- Click the “System” settings in the menu.
- Find “Reset & Admin” then click “Reset TV to Factory Defaults.”
You may be asked for a code when doing this; if so, the default code is four zeros, or 0000.
Without a remote
- Find the power button on your TV – this may be on the left, right, or bottom of your device depending on the model.
- Press and hold the volume down and source buttons simultaneously while the TV is on.
- After a few seconds, your TV will ask you to click and hold the input button.
- Make sure you hold the input button for at least 10 seconds.
This will revert your Vizio TV to its settings when you first bought it, fixing any potential firmware issues.
Reset the power cord in the back of your Vizio TV
Unplugging the power cord from the back of the TV is another quick way to fix your power problem.
You should unplug this for about a minute, and then plug it back in.
Ensure the connection is tight when you plug the power cord back in! You don’t want this to be loose. Having a tight connection is important to make sure the TV gets consistent, reliable power.
After plugging it back in, turn on the Vizio TV by pressing the power button on the TV — do not use the remote.
Contact Vizio support (or another professional)
Still no luck? Try contacting Vizio customer support.
They may offer more help for your particular model, or even have a recommendation not listed in this post, such as replacing internal components like your power supply.
If the issue can be resolved over the phone or by sending your TV in for service, the Vizio customer service staff may be able to assist you.
Check your Vizio warranty
If all else fails, you should check your Vizio warranty and see what comes from it.
You’ll have to provide information on what’s happening with your TV, and they’ll determine what the next steps are.
Here’s what could come from your warranty:
- Nothing (warranty doesn’t cover the issue)
- Repair (send the TV in to get fixed or they may come right to your house to fix it)
- Replacement (you may receive a new TV depending on what happened)
It’s worth a shot if you’ve tried everything else on this list with no solution. Hope this helped!
